Bone Cancer
Osteosarcoma is the most common bone tumor in dogs although it is rare in cats. The cancer is most common in large dog breeds such as the St. Bernard, Great Dane, Doberman Pinscher, Irish Setter, Golden Retriever and Rottweiler. It commonly shows up between the age of 7 and 10 years.
Symptoms in dogs with osteosarcoma are usually painful lameness and swelling in the primary diseased area. Occasionally, there has been a history of trauma to the affected area such as a previous fracture. Osteosarcoma is a highly malignant tumor that can spread to any other organ, but metastasis is primarily seen in the lungs.
Conventional Treatment - A biopsy confirming a pathologic diagnosis as well as a complete set of thoracic radiographs (chest x-rays) is the suggested conventional approach before starting invasive surgery such. Amputation of the painful limb is often an outcome and most dogs adjust to having only three limbs, particularly if it is a rear limb that has been removed. Chemotherapy will often follow amputation in order to prevent the spread of cancer to other areas of the body, for example to the lymph nodes.
Natural Prevention and Treatment
- Any breed of dog can become weakened through years of consuming the chemicals that are contained in artificial foods and drugs which affect the major organs. That is why it is important to understand that prevention is better than cure, and that the most effective way of preventing cancer is by adopting a diet and healing products that are safe, natural and do not have harmful side effects such as acting as carcinogens.
- If cancer is present our approach is to assist the whole body to fight the cells by boosting the immune system, preventing the cancer from spreading, and by shrinking the cancer cells. This is a more effective way of treating bone cancer. It also works to heal, or prevent cancer in, the lymph node nosodes.
