Cryptococcosis (fungal Infection)
Background
Cryptococcosis is the most common fungal disease in cats and should be an important differential diagnosis when a cat presents with sneezing and nasal discharge that is unresponsive to antibiotics.
The age range for infected cats varies widely (1-13 yrs), with a mean age of 5 years. There is a predisposition for infection in male cats, most likely due to the increased roaming of toms. Siamese cats are also overrepresented in most studies. Outdoor cats suffer an increased incidence of cryptococcosis in comparison with indoor cats. However, keeping cats indoors does not prevent them from contracting the disease as they can contract it from potting soil in house plants and moldy, unfinished basements.
Cryptococcosis affects the same four organ systems as with cats, but the CNS and eyes are more commonly involved in dogs than in cats. The four primary systems affected are the respiratory, central nervous, ocular, and cutaneous systems.
The clinical signs in dogs and cats are similar cats except that fever (103-105 F) is seen more often in dogs (25% of cases).
Natural Solution
Our homeopathic remedies prove very effective as an antifungal solution. If required, we also provide a retina remedy for repairing eye damage (if not damaged beyond repair) that does not cause the side affects associated with common conventional treatments.
