Feline Distemper (panleukpenia, infectious enteritis)
This is an acute viral infection which can attack the stomach and intestinal tract as well as the mucous membranes of the throat. It is of utmost importance to realize that if secondary infections occur, death can follow within 5 days, or in extreme cases, within 24 hours.
Symptoms
- Prostration
- High fever
- Vomiting - strenuous; viscous greenish-yellow mucous (may appear the animal has been poisoned)
- Diarrhoea is a primary symptom and indicates the lower part of the cat's body is infected. Stools may
be watery or bloody and slimy
- Bad breath
- Inflamed tongue and / or drooling affecting eating
- Lethargy
Natural Solutions
Solutions needs to be applied as rapidly as possible, as time is of the essence. So while these remedies can be ordered from us, in order to act quickly you can purchase them in your country from any homeopathic supplier or pharmacy.
- Hydrastis 10M (homeopathic) needs to be given straight away. A dose must be given every 15 mins and
repeated 3 times. Follow with a dose every 2 hours, 4 times per day. It may be hard to find this high potency and a lower strength may not be as effective. However, it is better to use whatever strength is available until we get the full dosage to you.
- Aconite 200C - for fever. Give every 2 hours, then can alternate with Belladonna 200C every 2 hours until fever
subsides. Repeat when needed.
- Homeopathic China 30C to prevent dehydration associated with loss of fluids caused by diarrhoea.
Give a dose every hour for the first day, and then reduce as symptoms improve.
- Merc Corr 200C for diarrhea associated with infection of lower part of body. Give every one to two hours
for the first day, and then reduce to 3 times daily once improvement is seen.
- Homeopathic Baptisia 30C or 200C - for acute inflammation of the tongue. Give every hour or two for
one day, and then reduce to 3 doses per day as healing and eating occur.
Use the homeopathic, regardless of whether the animal is at home or in hospital, or on IV and /or antibiotics, in order to aid and support the healing process.
