Chlamydia is a relatively newly discovered bacteria remaining undetected previously because of difficulties in culturing the organism in laboratories and in seeing it under the microscope.

Outcomes

• Chlamydia causes serious problems in many species of animals as well as humans. In Australia, chlamydia has found its way into koala populations where it is a major cause of reduced fertility and declining populations. In kangaroos it causes blindness causing affected animals to hop full force into trees and other solid objects resulting in stress, feeding difficulties, and ultimately death.
   
• In many species, including felines and humans Chlamydis is a common cause of Respiratory Tract Infections - 'RTI', and Upper Respiratory Tract Infections - 'URTI'.
   
• URTIs cause nasal congestion and discharge and in cats runny eyes. RTIs affect the lungs and may cause pneumonia.
   
• Cat's with Chlamydia infection is very common and a major health problem for breeders.  It causes a flu like illness with sneezing, serous (clear) discharge from the nose and runny eyes. Some prominent Persian breeders feel that chlamydia may be endemic in some catteries and is a contributing causes to chronically runny eyes in their cats.

Some vets (and I too) feel that chlamydia is also a common cause of pneumonia in young kittens.

Many times kittens who seem well, suddenly become ill , stop feeding,  develop a rattly chest and eventually die. This is probably chlamydial pneumonia  (which may well be one of the causes of Fading Kitten Syndrome that can affect kittens as young as 24 hrs on).

Our natural alternative solution is to:

Application:   (topically and internally)  The dose is approx. 10 drops in goats milk for mum and kittens to drink daily.  Also use as a "natural antibiotic" for the eyes - topically, the solution can be used to clear eyes as often as needed each day, undiluted onto a piece of cotton wool.

• (hampls Product AN119)  Chlamydia virus oral nosodes for prevention can be used.
   
• For cats or kittens that may have the virus we use the hampls homeopathic  (AN106) URI Upper Respiratory Infection formula. This has got the Chlamydia nosode in the formula as well as a treatment, which can take 3 to 4 days for 90% improvement of all symptoms, then give one dose a day four weeks to wipe out Chlamydia in the system.
   
• Also recommended is the Colloidal Silver liquid (hampls AN127)     (or buy from health food store)

If your kitten is severely unwell or use as a prevention, I suggest you use the Pneumonia formula set of natural formulas (hampls AN112) as soon as possible, or if you are a breeder it maybe a good idea to have this treatment on hand in your medicine kit.
