• Stress plays a role in the development of coccidiosis  and it is not uncommon for a seemingly healthy puppy to arrive at his new home and develop diarrhea several days later. This is usually diagnosed as coccidia. If the puppy has been at the new home for less than thirteen days, then he probably had coccidia before he arrived. If the puppy has been with his new owner several weeks, then the exposure to coccidia most likely occurred after the animal arrived due stress of new enviroment.

Supporting the animal, using "oral nosodes" will help strengthen the system against re-infection in the future. 

Present relief:  use in conjunction (if needed) with Slippery Elm powder mixture given orally to quickly stop diarrhea in puppies or adult dogs.

Holistically an animal homeopath would use a natural and effective solution of dysenteric (coccidiosis) nosodes, Gaertner (bowel nosode),  E.Coli nosode, Sycotic Co. with
Baryta Carb - would suit very young animals, when other formulas are slow to respond.
China - indicated when loss of body fluid occurs for longer than 3 days.
Ver Alb - is condition which, when severe, leads to collapse; stools are described as like rice-water.
Podophyllum 1M - for long standing cases which have not shown response to other formulas, also another key factor is they seem to be worse in the mornings.

Other formulas Allium Sat, Ipecac (nausea) Merc Corr. generally given three times daily for a week or longer if needed.  If not 100%  cleared up, then either the strength or frequency or formulas are incorrect and need re-assessing with practitioner.   Using nosodes will help the system be stronger against any re-infection in the future.
